Remote - Director, Technical Project Management Office (PMO)

**Remote-based role**

ClearScale is growing quickly and there is high demand for the services we provide. Clients come to us for our deep experience with Big Data, Containerization, Serverless Infrastructure, Microservices, IoT, Machine Learning, DevOps and more.

ClearScale is seeking an experienced Director, Technical PMO to continue to build and improve upon an existing PMO practice for our fast-growing global company. The Director, Technical PMO serves as a strategic and tactical business partner to the ClearScale leadership team.

There are numerous opportunities to apply your professional background in partnership with the leadership team. You'll report to the CEO and will manage the PMO function globally. Over the last year especially and with high-growth, we have scaled to an existing project management team of ten (10) people; you will come in to lead and manage this team, identifying opportunities to make the team more cohesive and effective. The team is projected to double in size next year.

Summary: The Director, Technical PMO is responsible for leading the PMO department and will include developing governance, providing leadership, coordination, and management of PMO processes and functions. This person will establish, improve, implement, develop and manage best practices for project management throughout the organization. In addition, this person will also enforce and update all policies and processes of the project lifecycles to ensure delivery of these projects according to plan and within budget. It is the responsibility of this role to also create formal methodologies and define key project, performance, and resource allocation metrics. The Director, Technical PMO will manage a team of Project Managers, and will partner closely with the VP of Finance, VP of Sales, Delivery Directors and Director of Solution Architecture for maximum business goal alignment.

Job Summary:

  • Works with other department leaders to define, prioritize and execute on projects; monitors project dates, tasks, hours, risks, challenges and customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle;
  • Manage, coach, mentor, motivate, and hold accountable the PM team, including owning all aspects of recruiting, onboarding, retention, engagement, training, mentoring and professional development;
  • Responsible for all project management processes and tools. Continuously assesses PMO based on key metrics to achieve goals. Communicate and ensure best practices and project management tools & processes are applied to address unique situations;
  • Drive high customer satisfaction on projects during execution, engage customers for real and critical feedback;
  • Proactively lead PMO delivery and approvals for multiple concurrent Project Managers, tracking completion of action items, resolving issues, mitigating risk while monitoring financial performance of projects. Communicate appropriately at all levels withing the company as required to meet PMO objectives and goals;
  • Partner with organizational leadership to secure required resource assignments to project tasks;
  • Executive level collaboration; working closely across multiple departments including finance, sales, and delivery;
  • Influences executive leadership within the business areas to create and maintain alignment around the PMO business objectives, measurable benefits, success criteria, scope, and constraints impacting PMO delivery;
  • Work with project teams to foster collaborative and mutually supportive relationships with Tech Leads, Systems or Software Development Directors to ensure project success;
  • Handle customer escalation and issues;
  • Provide business, portfolio, and project reporting and analysis to internal management;
  • Identify new opportunities (business development) within existing customers when possible;
  • Implement tools to automate and optimize PMO operations;
  • Ensure account management and customer billing issues are resolved rapidly.

Required skills and experience:

  • Experience in being a part of a highly driven and professional leadership team focused on business results;
  • Proven track record of being an integral leader with experience building and managing a technical PMO group in a Professional Services or Consulting company; can draw from experience, have a vision, make impact and execute quickly;
  • Understanding and experience in solving global delivery challenges by leveraging collaborative tools, methodologies, and disciplined exit and entrance criteria and enforcement;
  • Customer and service centric mind set;
  • Experience managing or creating a highly functional PM team focused on financial performance;
  • Ability to lead, influence and persuade in order to impact positive change;
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously; varying customers, aggressive deadlines, and requirements;
  • Experience with process improvement, process design, and measurement of progress and results;
  • Understanding of infrastructure and cloud technologies is a must; AWS knowledge preferred;
  • Proficient in Project Scheduling and Project Lifecycle best practices;
  • Highly responsible, results-orientated, self-motivated, with excellent organizational skills and able to work autonomously;
  • Ability to lead across departments to achieve a single objective;
  • Strong communication (both verbal and written) skills are a must;
  • Consulting organization experience is required;
  • Strong financial acumen and project budgeting experience from a professional services/ consulting organization; strong in data metrics analysis and working with spreadsheets;
  • Experience forecasting, tracking and managing project budgets and actual project financials;
  • Experience in consulting and B2B technology project management in various roles of increasing responsibility;
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, Master’s preferred;
  • 10-15 years’ experience in project management with 5-10 years’ experience in a leadership role;
  • Familiar with Jira, Confluence and other project management tools;
  • Experienced with Scrum/Agile;
  • Proficient in the use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project;
  • PMP, PgMP or equivalent certification required.
