Director, Pre-Sales and Solution Architecture (US Remote)

The Director, Presales and Solution Architecture is responsible for advisory and solutions, inclusive of sales enablement, roadmaps, continuous improvement and customer experience within a variety of industries and technologies. ClearScale is seeking a thought leader and evangelist for professional services, with a passion for solving problems with technology.

Some travel is required - including the possibility of leading onsite engagements as the senior-most client advisor.


To be successful in this role, we are looking for senior leaders with:

  • Minimum of 5 years innovation and digital transformation experience in a Cloud Presales Function within a professional services environment, with proven experience at managing multiple concurrent presales opportunities totaling $30 million dollars annually
  • An ability to lead multi-skilled teams
  • Demonstrable experience in the definition of presales standards, processes and procedures
  • Demonstrable ability to establish, monitor and maintain 3rd party vendor relationships
  • Demonstrable ability to understand and motivate people, tailor solutions to meet each person’s particular style and situation
  • Strong customer service orientation, ability to pivot solution architects to be more customer-focused
  • An ability to manage complaints and feedback to improve presales and solution architecture
  • Exceptional consulting skill set with ability to provide appropriate direction to architects and executives, knowledge and experience working in systems integrators is mandatory
  • Ability to work as team player, comfortable with fast paced, changing environment and ambiguity
  • An ability to advocate and communicate what a team does to create trust and authenticity
  • Desire to make a difference, take initiative, be innovative and seek out opportunities to create effective change
  • Good technical understanding and ability to keep up to date with rapidly changing cloud market trends. We do not need you to have a software/infrastructure engineering background, but we are looking for a background of primary presales responsibility and leadership roles in execution of some or all of the following:
    • Cloud strategy consulting, planning and roadmap development
    • Cloud design and implementation, cloud migrations
    • Application modernization
    • Database modernization
    • Data analytics
    • Greenfield software development, including value proposition development (e.g., ideation management, pilot / POCs, MVP development)


  • Ensure efficient and consistent presales and solution architecture processes and documentation are defined, implemented and maintained (playbooks, checklists and templates), drive best practice adoption to optimize productivity across team
  • Identify and then implement the necessary structures, roles & responsibilities required within the team
  • Ensure accurate, effective and timely communications across the presales and solution architecture function
  • Develop and maintain supportive, trusting and professional relationships with other ClearScale functions and customers to expedite sales and delivery of cloud solutions
  • Ensure that KPIs and OKRs are defined, tracked and actioned in order to drive presales and solution architecture excellence
  • Positively influence the culture of the team, helping it embrace new technologies and ways of working
  • Lead the process for development of long-term strategy for new customer acquisition
  • Analyze, propose, negotiate and convert qualified prospects into deals in accordance with solution/value-based selling model
  • Ensure the presales and solution architecture function is aligned with demand and future trends in delivery, drive the resource management strategies, define and execute development plans
  • Participate in hiring activities and interviews to ensure top talent are brought into the team, ensure accurate and timely resource fulfillment
  • Directly and indirectly supervise staff members in design delivery of products and services, set the pace, ensuring the team is working towards commitments
  • Be the key leadership escalation point for resource, presales and client satisfaction issues, solve them and unblock problems
  • Analyze and report on presales and solution architecture results regularly to ensure that all deliverables meet or exceed organizational standards and quality requirements
  • Facilitate continual improvement where required
  • Ensure seamless transition from presales function to delivery function
  • Identify extensions & value add sales to offer clients where helpful during project timelines
